This year we are focusing our dance educational study on "Game Night," anything and everything dealing with games: board games, card games, Live Action Role Play games, video games, game shows, the options are endless! Each dance in our spring dance concert will educate our audience on an aspect of games that dance students have studied, researched, and translated into movement. We will bring the fun, excitement, connection, and entertainment of the world of games to the stage. Our spring dance concert, "Game Night," will be an interactive experience for dancers and audience members, through original and creative movement, primarily choreographed by our student dancers!
In this particular piece, students use Chess, and the movement requirements of each game piece to explore traveling movement patterns and embodiment of character to bring the game of Chess to life.
The purchase of these costumes will help the dancers to fully immerse themselves, and the audience, in the characters of each game piece; allowing the audience to easily visually follow the game, and who will come out the winner. Will the white chess pieces or the black chess pieces take out the Queen first? Which King will be left standing?
Dance provides an outlet for not only creative and artistic expression, but emotional expression. As students are taught to explore and discover new and interesting ways to move their body and express ideas through movement and the elements of dance, students are also able to better connect with themselves, their own emotions, ideas, and experiences as well as to their peers, their community, the world around them, and once again discover the fun in playing!
