it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is comprised of fourth and fifth grade gifted students, who come from various backgrounds. They are curious and imaginative and love to learn! I want to be able to help them reach information and knowledge beyond the classroom through hands on learning. They are 21st century leaders who are thirsty for knowledge.
I want them to be well-rounded and challenge them academically, as well as provide them opportunities to challenge themselves in non-traditional ways.
I feel that introducing them to chess is a great way to build on skills that will help them grow as learners.
My Project
There have been many proven benefits for teaching children to play chess. It helps them with their problem solving skills, logic, concentration, attention to detail and so much more! With ten chess sets I will be able to start a chess club in which my students learn to play chess, and in return teach other students in our school how to play chess. There are many students who do not want to go outside to play at recess, and they have shown so much interest in learning how to play chess. I bought five chess sets for the class, but that is not enough for everyone to get a chance to play and apply what they are learning on it. With your donation we will have enough chess sets for our whole class to play!
