My Students
Our library is the learning and social center of our school. As an inner-city school in South Carolina, our students are diverse in ethnicity, income, and learning styles. Forty-six percent of our students receive free or reduced price lunch.
As a teacher and librarian, I'm committed to support the reading development of our students.
Reading is essential for student success. I want to encourage our students to read, evaluate, and think critically about different styles of text and writing. The library is a learning center where students may explore and engage in discussion and exchange of ideas. With a diverse population, we want to provide books of substance to appeal to our students and develop life-long enjoyment of reading.
My Project
My students need books to participate in our reading community. Our book club meets weekly to discuss different books throughout the school year. This project will sponsor the purchase of thirty copies of one new title from our state book award nominee list. Our students will use these materials to strengthen their reading ability through discussion and analysis of the content.
Your generous donation to our project will improve student participation by building stronger readers, which enables them to also improve their writing.
This will change our students' lives for the better. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve student’s reading and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
