This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our typical day in third grade is filled with learning and fun. We learn through games, activities, and collaborating in all areas. By the end of the year I want them to grow in all academic areas, love school and can't wait to get to school!
My students are excited about learning.
They are sweet young students who want to do their best but this task can be difficult with the area I teach. My students have to fight poverty and high crime rates on a daily basis. The community has been labeled with many unfavorable titles such as most impoverished city and most dangerous city in the USA. Our school is a safe place in the midst of unfavorable outside surroundings. In my room, I emphasize the love of learning, and try to nurture that philosophy in every thing I do in my room. They are starting to discover books that will take them places. We are starting to venture into chapter books but our room is lacking them at our levels. Some students struggle with other things outside our classroom and that is why it is so important for them to love school and have all the tools I can provide for them.
My Project
In my room the books will be added to my library for my students to use while relaxing and reading on their the carpet squares. We will also use the carpet squares to enjoy read alouds and have discussions. It will help that love of learning philosophy I want to instill in my students.
The carts will be used to help get us organized in our new adventure of guided reading groups. We can put our different groups in by color so the students will know their books and assignments.
The games will be used during lunch time. Instead of watching videos during the winter months the students will be able to come to the room for lunch and play different games which will help with group work, following rules, getting along, and spelling.
The seat pockets are going to help us store all our items. Our desks don't fit all our important items, so with the seat pockets we will be able to store all our great items we need daily.
The laminator will allow us to laminate our great work and preserve it.
The project I planned is going to improve our classroom in so many different ways.
We will be more organized therefore we will be more effective in our teaching and learning. We will have so many more books to choose from which will help us in our reading improvement goals and nurture their love of reading. The games I selected are such great learning tools for spelling, cooperation, following directions, and just having fun together. All the items selected will help all the students all day!
