My Students

Chatham is located in rural southern Virginia and offers a sense of community for our students. Over half of the student body receives free or reduced-price lunch and many of my seniors that plan to attend college next year are the first generation.

My students are beyond excited about their future prospects and work hard in all areas of their lives, often balancing AP courses, 30 hour/week jobs, and family obligations.

It is truly amazing to witness their accomplishments thus far.

My Project

My students and I regularly sign up for the SAT, fill out the FAFSA and write essays. Since we are not a one-to-one computing school that leaves many of my students without the proper technology needed to accomplish their goals. I have chosen a laptop and a printer because these are items that my students use every day in order to complete their tasks.

Oftentimes, my students are unable to work from home due to a lack of resources, and the laptop and printer will provide me with the opportunity to set up a space for my students to work on college applications, essays and scholarships.

They work very hard every day to complete assignments for their classes and also their post-secondary plans. The laptop and printer would ease the burden of stress and facilitate the college application process.
