Chasing Our Hoop Dreams!

My Students

My students come from an area synonymous with low socioeconomic status and generational poverty. While the living situations they experience are sometimes challenging, they exhibit a contagious positivity that is hard not to notice!

Last school year, my students participated in a fundraiser to help upgrade the basketball backboards in the gym.

They went out and found sponsors who pledged money for each lap they completed on our Fitnessgram Pacer running test. The Pacer Test can be grueling, but the kids were highly motivated to raise the money needed for the basketball upgrades. They were able to bring in over $1,500.00 that is being used toward the project.

I am fortunate to have such a hardworking, motivated, and positive group of students.

My Project

If we are able to obtain the funds for this project, we will Install the new goals on our outside basketball court. Currently, we have only one basketball goal on our court and it is poor condition. We are badly in need of an upgrade!

Our hope is to replace the one goal we have with two new outdoor goals, one at each end of the court.

Due to the condition of our existing goal, it is difficult to play a game. Also, with only one goal, we can’t accommodate many students. This project will afford my students to play basketball both in gym class and at recess.
