Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students love to learn, they love to develop and apply new skills, and they are resilient! We are an urban, low-income district, and our families are mostly hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home.

Students will use the pencils, sticky notes, and chart paper as they explore all of the information available in the library!

Our amazing elementary complex library serves 2000+ students in four schools, and I continue to work on turning it into a 21st-century library media center and learning hub where students will collaborate and learn. I also continue to update the materials and resources that students are accessing.

Sticky notes will be used to mark places in a text where students have questions or notice an important moment. When doing research, colored sticky notes help to organize notes and information. During writing, different colored sticky notes focus a student's efforts when revising a piece--such as green for adding more description and purple for trying stronger vocabulary words. The chart paper will be used by students when working in small groups, to organize and present information.

The printer ink will be used to print articles from our digital databases, as well as additional signage so students can easily find materials and books.

Any tools and resources that motivate students are valuable to have in a collaborative learning space like our Library Media Center. These basics will get students learning!
