This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We are a school on the far northeast side of Chicago where 100% of the students receive free lunch. My school is located in a very low-income community. Most of the students come from immigrant families, and are also refugees. Due to the lack of funding, I am not able to provide my students with all the technology and devices a classroom in 2022 deserves. We are trying to improve test scores and prepare for the new Common Core assessments, but we do not have the resources we need. My students are wonderful and work extremely hard. My students are using a new curriculum this year and unfortunately not all the books and materials we need were sent.
My students need chart paper for their collaborative group work.
My students use between 5 to 10 sheets of chart paper every lesson. They use them for collaborative work, silent discussions and to generate questions they have about a topic or book. Unfortunately, chart paper is expensive and I'm running out of what I bought earlier this year!
