Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Some of my students have not had the opportunity to enjoy a classic childhood novel. By funding my project, my third graders will be able to experience the magic of Charlotte's Web!
My students have limited background experiences.
The majority of them are low income and come from homes where English is not the spoken language. Our school has some class novel sets, but mostly for the older grades. Half of my class is reading below grade level. I believe this is due to their lack of exposure to rich literature.
My Project
My students need 25 Charlotte's Web paperback books to participate in a novel study. My students will engage in a novel study on Charlotte's Web. They will practice reading comprehension skills and vocabulary using this novel. These are best practices based on KEYS. The students will practice finding the main idea, summarizing, categorizing, etc.
I believe a donation to this project will inspire my students to love reading and give them an opportunity to experience childhood magic that they may miss out on without materials.
