My Project
Every year, I get excited as the holidays get near. I enjoy reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to my students during the months of November and December. At the end of our book, we celebrate with a book celebration where students participate in hands-on activities. This year, I want to surprise my students with a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory learning-based party. I have found that my students are more engaged in the read-alouds when they are given the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities and role-play. My students will be able to use the items in this donation to work on STEM activities that will allow them to use concrete objects. Students will brainstorm the perfect candy factory/gingerbread house and then build it using the candy provided and the gingerbread kits to practice their engineering skills. Students will have to "buy" (play money) candy to practice their financial literacy skills.
My school is a Title I-funded campus; we are a border city, and the majority of our students are newcomers to the English language.
Every year my goal as a bilingual teacher is to get them to succeed in the English Language. I like to motivate and encourage my students by providing them with hands-on experiences and real-world applications so they can grasp and learn the English language in more fun and effective ways. These kiddos are our future and I want to provide them with literature that they enjoy.
Imagine a classroom filled with Willy Wonka props and scrumptious candy!
This is what I envision as my students finish the book and then create Willy Wonka's new and improved candy/gingerbread factory to integrate STEM activities in my classroom.
