Many of our students come from low income families with limited resources. Some of the students come from broken homes, some are raised where drugs are present, and some suffer from neglect. It is our goal to provide resources and supplements to give every student the best education possible. We also strive daily to give them love and a fun learning environment.
Kindergarten is such a valuable time in a child's life.
We are learning to write, read, draw, how to share, how to be a good friend, and how to control our behavior. Our students range from EC to ready to read. We celebrate every small victory according to the student (stickers, treat box, candy, free reading center, etc). Our class will also be reading "The World according to Humphrey" after snack every day. Humphrey is a class pet. We have a stuffed hamster and the children will be taking him home for the weekend and taking pictures of their adventures. They will bring him back and will be interviewed by the class. They will also draw and write about the weekend. This activity allows many opportunities to be able to express themselves.
My Project
The pandemic hit us hard in March. We were in school on Friday and by Monday we were not allowed to go back. Our teachers put together packets and delivered them by bus for the first week. Then we went completely virtual for the rest of the school year. We are a Pre-k through 8th grade school in a low income area. We did not have enough Chromebooks for every student to have one.
Most of our programs and assessments require technology.
We are receiving Chromebooks for every student in October. Kindergarten students will use their Chromebooks at school only. The charging cart is a great need for storage and charging.
