Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I love my student's work ethic. They are very engaged in the lesson whether discussing text, having Turn-n-Talks, peer partner groups to practice questions and responses in Spanish as well as creating conversations in Spanish. Their excitement to learn another language is heart warming. As an elective course, students sometimes don't like, appreciate, or value Spanish. I also utilize Canvas which is our on-line learning management system. I post the student's work there so they can go at their own pace. Students can go at their own pace and everything is GREAT until their computer dies and they are without access or power.

My Project

In our District students are required to use CANVAS (an online learning management system) and each student has a Microsoft Surface but we do not have enough chargers to keep them charged throughout the day. All assignments from SEL activities, to District assigned assessments, teacher-generated lessons to include Discussion Boards, Powerpoints, and Nearpods are all posted to this platform. Students are required to visit Modules daily to complete and submit tasks. Throughout the day the students' computers die and they have two options for completing their work: 1)they would have to share the Teachers computer which requires them to work at the same pace and complete their work on paper or 2) Teacher can make copies of the lesson for students to copy and complete from a Powerpoint and Discussion Boards but the District assigned assessments or Nearpods can not be printed.
