My Students

We have just started using our Kindle Fires and laptops on a daily basis and excitement is sparking all over the classroom! However, we are facing an unanticipated problem; where are we going to put our amazing new computers to guarantee they will be safe and ready for use?!?

Many of my students have no technology accessible to them, other than what I am able to provide during their time in the classroom.

I teach math and science in a third grade classroom at a public school located in the Washington Heights neighborhood of upper Manhattan. All of my students come into the classroom from low-income homes and receive free or reduced lunch.

My Project

We have recently acquired laptops and Kindle Fires for our classroom. Each night I lock them up in a filing cabinet but then have to open it up each morning and charge the computers and Kindle Fires. I would like to have a real charging station so that the computers and Kindle Fires can stay charging throughout the day, ready for the students to use. Right now I plug them all into a wall outlet and rotate charging them. Having an easy place to store/charge our laptops and Kindle Fires is essential for quick access to technology.

Technology is important in our world today, and it is also engaging for students.

Their enthusiasm for learning while using technology is evident from their huge smiles and the focus and drive that I see while they go about their tasks. Having a storage/charging cart will make it easy for them to use the devices any time, as they will be charged and organized.
