My students need materials to help keep our acquired technology charged and ready each day including a 10 unit charging port and cords for iPads and items to use to protect and share our devices.
In kindergarten, we are working and learning together. A large part of this learning is in motion. We investigate, explore, research and question. These are just a few things that my students do on a daily basis in my classroom. They are willing to work hard, make mistakes, and persevere to grow into lifelong learners.
Times are changing and the way kids learn is changing.
“If we teach today as we taught yesterday, then we rob our children of tomorrow.” John Dewey.
Our school serves approximately one-third of our students free or reduced-price meals each day. I am constantly reading and learning to find new ideas to spark the engagement of five and six-year-olds to reach their diverse learning styles while meeting our rigorous curricular and social emotional needs and closing the gap that lies between them financially by providing learning opportunities for all students equally in my classroom.
My Project
With the help of grant partners and DonorsChoose.org, I am excited to continue full charge ahead into truly using technology in our classroom! I've run into and easy-to-fix problem! Where will we charge these devices? My students need to have access to the devices daily, and many lose charge within one day, but we don't have enough outlets in our classroom to charge the devices I have been able to provide all at once!
As I continue my quest to add Chromebooks and iPads to our classroom, we need to be able to have a central location to charge the devices within our room, without cables and wires becoming tangled and causing a problem.
I found a solution in a ten port charging station to house the iPads in our classroom, with a few spaces still available as an opportunity to grow. In addition, I am requesting charging cables that are one foot in length, to utilize without becoming tangled. My students do not all have a device...yet! Therefore I also included headphone splitters to use so that two children may use the same device and both be able to hear through their headphones they provide and screen protectors to help protect our investment. I included the addition of one Chromebook and mouse, to continue to build a classroom where each child is able to choose learning opportunities throughout the day when time is available to practice skills we are learning in class and understand the digital world and how to become a responsible digital citizen within the guidance of my classroom.
