Help me give my students Internet access, so my bright babies can bask in brainpower!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach in a Title One school where eighty percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch and breakfast program. We are a low income, high poverty school district. The demographics are sixty percent Haitian Creole, ten percent Caucasian, and thirty percent Hispanic and Latino, a diverse bunch. The neighborhood we live in is in the city of Lake Worth. Lake Worth has one of the highest crime rates in the country; however, we are looking to turn it around. My students have a strong desire to learn, to progress, and to overcome the many hurdles that impede them from achieving their full potential. Though they have tough lives, they come in with smiles on their faces and they make me laugh while we learn! They are exposed to too much at times, but I'm trying to steer them in a direction towards using the Internet for good! Many of these students don't have access to quality items of their own. The teachers do so much; we pay out of our pockets for many things. Our school is known for our passion, but we don't always have enough money. We could use your help to make the world a better place for them!
My bright babies are in the process of growing their minds; however, the technology barriers are trying to keep us out. Technology is so vital for the young minds of today; the more Internet access we have, the more children we can serve. Unfortunately, many children do not have electronic tablets to access the electronic resources needed for class.
Information afforded to us through Internet use, in the hands of a child, can help them seek more for their life.
The children want to achieve, but these technology barriers are breaking our vision. Access to a tablet, thus the Internet, will unfold bounds of resources, to extend this gift into a multi-use tool.
This technology will be a library, learning software, writing pad, drawing pad, whiteboard, and so much more. We thank you so much for your contribution to our awesome kids at Central Palm!
