This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our city is one of the most poverty-stricken cities in our nation. The students in my school face many challenges at home and in their community which influence their attitudes before they even walk in the door.
No amount of blight, unreliable public transportation, or pothole infested roads can stop our students and their families from moving forward and ensuring they are at school.
Determination like this reminds us to be connected with the reality of our students and to reach them to teach them. They deserve every resource available to ensure they succeed.
My Project
I want to empower my students by building their confidence in all subject areas. My goal is to ensure they meet grade-level expectations and maintain excitement about learning.
There are several great math, literacy, science, and social studies applications that my students can benefit from that will help guide them towards mastery.
Technology provides a great way to embed assessments that will allow students to receive practice answering multiple choice questions electronically through apps like Kahoot or Quizlet. However, without the proper protective gear, our class set of Fire Tablets aren't protected from accidents that may happen. If our tablets run out of battery, my students won't be able to use them at all.
I am requesting a class set of tablet cases and 3 charging stations to keep donated tablets safe and charged.
I believe that teachers and students are both responsible for keeping all classroom resources in great condition. Having kid-friendly cases allows students to have a worry free learning experience using technology. There will be times where students accidentally drop a tablet. I want that experience for students to be a teachable moment about responsibility and not a breakdown over a cracked tablet. The charging station will also allow my students to be responsible for returning their tablet to the charging port after each use to ensure our tablets are ready for daily use.
