Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with more than 90% of our students being on free or reduced lunch. The majority of our students are Second Language Learners; Spanish and English being the two major languages. Many of our students have learning disabilities and struggle to maintain their attention while trying to focus on learning. Every year we are seeing more students diagnosed with autism and ADHD.
Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking for ways to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
Our classrooms has very limited outlet so it is difficult to keep our iPads charged. Students will learn how to properly store and plug in the iPads in our new charging station so that they can manage the class iPads on their own. This will create a sense of responsibility for our classroom supplies and the resources that we have been fortunate enough to be given. Our headphones will be stored individually and students will be responsible for their own set. They will also learn how to properly store them so we can get full usage out of each pair.
Today's 21st century learners deserve access to technology when they need it, and these items will create that opportunity to our students.
The practicality and accessibility of a charging station and headphones will allow students to have technology right at their fingertips. Students will be able to continue working on learning intervention apps during the school day and not have to worry where they will access these interventions at home.
