My Students

Picture adorable smiling faces, a boatload of energy, and an eagerness to learn as well as to share all of their own life experiences then you'll know what it looks like to walk into our classroom each day. I have the great pleasure of having a very diverse population of students in our classroom, each very unique in learning style and academic capabilities.

Maine is home to a diverse culture and a wide range of socioeconomic statuses which are seen throughout the city and in each one of the classrooms.

We have a high percentage of students who receive free or reduced-price lunch. All students need to have a community that supports them, enables them to be themselves, and fosters skills and tools for successful learning.

My Project

Have you ever picked up a book, looked at the cover, saw yourself in one of the characters and then had to read the book? I know I've done that a million times as a young reader, getting hooked by the character on the cover of the book. I'd like all my readers to have the ability to see themselves in the characters they read about and the illustrations they look at. Currently, my classroom library is lacking this diversity. Please help me obtain more books that have characters that look like the students in my classroom.

As my classroom becomes more diversified every year so should the books my students have access to.
