My Students

My students bring a wide range of home culture experiences, into the classroom. Every individual fills our shared learning environment with energy and excitement.

Because my students come from a diverse variety of cultural, socioeconomic, and home language backgrounds, they learn about one other and the way each other lives, every day.

We continuously work to maintain a community where everyone feels safe, included, and happy. It is important that my students feel comfortable to express themselves, any way they identify. We need materials that support these interests and identities.

My Project

Each year, I pay attention to what my kids are reading. Each year I put a project together to get more culturally relevant book selections with characters looking like my students. While I am making progress, I still have a long way to go! Many of my kiddos are English Language Learners. They need books with subject matters of interest for third graders, written at an emergent reader text level.

Your donation will contribute to an increasingly culturally relevant classroom library.

Additionally, CD players, splitters, and read-along texts provide additional audiovisual, literary support for my emergent readers and English Language Learners.
