This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are the sweetest, most respectful southern kids. Many of them are quiet and shy in a whole class setting, but when you get them in a small group or one on one, their personalities begin to shine!

5th-grade students at our school are excited to learn and have a great sense of humor.

Since we are a low-income Title I school, these kids do not often have the materials they need to be successful. I believe these students deserve a helping hand to make their year a successful one.

My Project

The vast majority of my students come from African American and Hispanic backgrounds. Unfortunately my classroom library does not match the makeup of my students. Many of my students are reluctant readers, reading below grade level. My goal is to provide books that they would want to pick up and enjoy, thereby expanding their reading level. Having chapter books with diverse characters will inspire and motivate my students to read more. I want them to see themselves and their friends in the books they read so that they are able to make more connections. Please help me to spread the joy of reading!
