My Students

My students enjoy playing Dungeons and Dragons (D&D). With this interest in mind, students are currently in the process of engaging in is Taking the World of Orisha from the Children of Blood & Bone book and developing characters. They will use the D&D book to help develop these characters and fit into the world of Orisha. Orisha has the pantheon of Orisha Gods and Goddesses similar to Greek and Roman pantheons. Using the constraints of Tomi Adeyemi's book and the Orisha Pantheon, students will engage in quests and campaigns in Orisha led by a Griot (Dungeon Master). These young scholars will also design maps of Orisha and engage in various live-action competitions that celebrate Yoruba/West African culture.

My Project

Students will have a resource guidebook on how to develop their characters for morphing Dungeons & Dragons to fit into different cultures and pantheons of gods. Throughout Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe students will be able to develop characters based on these people and mythological worlds.

The integration of fiction with nonfiction is what will be happening in my classroom.

Social interaction, collaboration, creative storytelling, math, and overall enjoyment will be taking place as students go on quests/campaigns/adventures to find treasures of the past that still exist today in museums.
