Character Strong Books for SEL Part 1

Help me give my students books that teachers can read aloud to support our Character Strong SEL Units (Kindness, Respect, Responsibility, Gratitude, Empathy, Perseverance, Honesty, Cooperation, and Creativity).

My Project

I am the librarian in a Title 1 school where over 75% of our families live in poverty. This year we are implementing a new SEL program called Character Strong. To support the lessons, I am creating projects to purchase books that are recommended by this program that classroom teachers can read or I can read in the library. I also envision PE and Music teachers participating. It takes everyone to support this work.

Character Strong is an evidence-based, multi-tiered solution to support whole child success.

This program will help improve behavior, increase safety, and support mental health. These books will help us create better spaces for our students.

The books I am requesting will support the themes for first two months of school: Kindness & Responsibility. The remaining monthly themes are Gratitude, Empathy, Perseverance, Honesty, Cooperation, Courage, and Creativity.
