I have a class full of incredible 2nd graders. They are all extremely unique. Some are quiet and shy, some outgoing and rambunctious. Some come from stable, supportive homes and others struggle because of factors outside of their control. Regardless of their story, they all have a desire to do well, and their faces glow when they reach their goals. It is so exciting to be a part of their lives and watch how they gain independence, responsibility, and ownership over their learning experiences.
My Project
Effective teaching builds on the foundation of a strong classroom community. I will be teaching character education using books that have characters who experience struggles, yet learn valuable lessons as they problem solve their way through difficulties. Using engaging picture books makes our character education lessons come alive in a memorable way. The things we learn about having good character are connected to memorable reading experiences. A double whammy for any teacher!
Every student deserves the opportunity to develop into kind, caring, compassionate, and responsible adults.
With this character education program I will arm my students with social-emotional skills that will benefit them in various contexts throughout their entire lives. Academic standards matter, but so does the heart!
