Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our district is one of the most diverse districts in Houston area with over 80 languages spoken in its schools. My elementary school is a perfect example of all of the diversity has to offer.
We are a Title I school who also offers programs for English Language Learners (bilingual classes), Special Education students, and gifted students.
Our enrollment is approximately 750 students with a high ESL population. All of the students make use of the library on a regular basis through their rotation classes.
My Project
The Chapter Chats Book Club will be a book club in which students and I will have the opportunity to work with each other by reading the same books and sharing our thoughts. Our campus has a large ESL population and this will encourage students to read in English, work on fluency, and be able to learn about and appreciate other cultures, social backgrounds, and genres.
Your donation will enable us to purchase copies of the books that the students will be able to keep and begin their own libraries.
By being able to gift each student their own personal novel(s), they will begin to build their own libraries with books I hope they will read over and over. It is my hope that they become lifelong readers and develop a deep love of reading.
