Help me give my students high quality, challenging, and meaningful books they can annotate, dog-ear, and take home forever!

With these books, students will be able to annotate a year of challenging texts in authentic ways. Highlighting, underlining, and writing in the margins is more efficient than using post-it notes and sticking them to each page. Having chapters and characters already annotated can save time searching and skimming for evidence, and students will not drown in a sea of post-its.
Pausing to annotate can remind students about important information, character traits, plot events, and, most importantly for this grade, evidence to answer each unit's essential question.
Thunder Rolling in the Mountains explores how cultural beliefs and values guide and affect indigenous characters and white soldiers and settlers. The Phantom Tollbooth asks why and how authors use wordplay. We are the Ship asks how sports can help people overcome cultural obstacles such as racism, sexism, and religious intolerance.
