My students need more books they can relate to. These students between TK-Grade 2 have Autism Spectrum Disorder. They are mainstreaming with their general ed peers most of the time. However, they need my help boosting their reading comprehension and social skills, so they come to my special ed classroom.
High-interest material helps characters come alive for them.
We have read a few Henry and Mudge books and they can't wait to read the next chapters and books! Dory Fantasmagory is another high-interest series I'd like for my classroom for small group instruction. I will be using these books as I teach summer school in June (Grades K-4) and when the regular year begins in early August.
