Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember that book that you loved as a child? The one that you read over and over? A great book teaches young students to appreciate the world of literature.
My school serves a diverse community of students in a neighborhood where many do not have access to the equitable educational opportunities that they deserve.
We work to create a caring school environment in which students are celebrated, supported, and pushed academically. Our goal is that all students leave elementary school well prepared to succeed in secondary and post-secondary academic settings.
My Project
One of the best ways to teach young students to appreciate literature is to create reading clubs. These clubs are meant to emulate the adult experience of reading both independently and in a social setting. In groups of two or four, the students choose an author they want to read. Then, they read a selection of books together and discuss them. I have complied a collection high interest, series chapter books to launch reading clubs. That means that the characters and settings are similar, which allows the students to focus on the plot and themes. Unfortunately, we do not currently have enough books to get them off the ground. Your donation can help solve this.
I want to create a classroom that provides all students the chance to browse and select among many wonderful stories.
By supporting this project, you can put books directly in the hands of waiting readers.
