The juvenile detention center school is a satellite site of our school system. The teaching staff consists of certified regular education teachers, a certified special education teacher, and a highly qualified paraprofessional. The student population at the detention center is very transient. A student’s stay may range from one day to ninety days. The average length of stay is two to three weeks. Each class at our school may consist of students in various grades.
Consequently, it is very difficult to address each student’s individual needs.
Classworks has solved a critical piece of the puzzle for the teachers at the juvenile detention center to provide a differentiated learning experience to address each student’s individual needs. However, we must share computers. We carry them from class to class, and most times when that doesn’t work, students just don’t get an opportunity to receive instruction at their performance level. Because of our students’ family life and current placement in the detention center, we are passionate about providing the best possible paths to success during their stay here at the detention center. We feel that daily access to a computer for each student is a means to this end.
Classworks Individualized Learning program uses targeted learning paths powered by students' test results (assessment partners) to find and fix learning gaps. Students of all ability levels get the attention they need to build confidence and accelerate. Each student gets the opportunity to learn at their own pace and still receive the assistance needed to get them where they need to be.
There's nothing more rewarding as a teacher to watch a student grasp a concept and have an "ahh" moments.
Those "light-bulb" moments are what we live for! By donating to this project, you will be giving disadvantaged students an opportunity to obtain the knowledge and education needed to reach their goals outside of the facility once released. Being able to provide a Chromebook to each student during class time will allow them to be more focused and eager to learn.
