Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
When my students walk into my classroom they have certain expectations of me, just as I have certain expectations of them. Part of the expectations these students have of me include taking care of them and providing them with necessities to learn.
This school year, my program is moving to a new building, and in moving, some of my supplies have had to be replaced.
Some of these supplies include snacks, health related products (band aids, sanitary products, masks, tissues, etc.), and mindfulness items such as fidgets and coloring books.
Although the above mentioned items may not seem like school related items at first glance, these items provide my students with the basics they need to come to class ready to learn every day. Because I work in a Title 1 District, my students come from a wide range of backgrounds and needs. When a student comes to school hungry, unable to care for themselves, or stressed out, it impacts their ability to learn. By making sure my students have a snack to make it through to lunch, a variety of healthcare items to ensure that they take care of their physical well being, and fidgets/mindfulness items to help them take care of their mental health, I am helping to set them up for success when it comes to learning and navigating their day within the school community.
