This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hello, I am a first-year teacher. I am working in the fifth grade and have a classroom that could use a little extra love. My students live in a high poverty neighborhood and they come to school with diverse minority backgrounds. Ninety percent of my students receive free or reduced rate lunches. All of them are non-Caucasian, either being African American or of Hispanic descent. Most of them come hungry to school every day and look forward to coming to school for daily essentials of life as well as for their love of learning. I want to make school their safe place, where they enjoy coming every day.

With a wide range of personalities and learning levels in my classroom I want to give the students all the necessary support I can.

Despite all of their economic hardships, these students arrive ready to learn and they seek out ways to connect with the teachers and community members in the building. They arrive eager and ready to learn!

My Project

All of our students should be able to view what the teacher is projecting on the board. My students are unable to do so because the current technology is not in working condition. Having a projector in the class will enable me to share my PowerPoints and ideas with the students in a clear, concise manner. It will also help them by being visible enough so that all of them can copy down their notes. The students will be able to work with me and not just copy everything.

This projector will let the students interactively share their work and thoughts as well as the teachers'!

I am requesting a projector so my students might be able to see lessons come to life. These students need to see the projection of concrete math examples before they will be able to accurately apply them. They also need to visualize the interactions between reading and writing when graphic organizers, highlighters, and text color changes are illustrated. Technology used with lessons will enable my visual and musical students to retain key components of their math and reading lessons. Whether it is a graphic organizer, instructional song, or a video clip, they all will be captivated by the projection of the material making it visible to all.
