Challenging Centers to Use in a Healthy and Clean Classroom
Help me give my students center materials such as magnetic letters and a build-a-word magnetic board, and Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer for a healthy and clean classroom!
I teach 25 amazing first graders in a predominantly African-American Title I inner-city Baltimore school. We have many wonderful programs at our school including a Recreation center and a Judy center. My students are eager to learn and are very creative, resilient, and kind. Although my students come in ready to learn every day, they don't always have the materials necessary to complete all of our tasks for the day or the things that we need to keep our classroom clean and healthy. My students and I would be so grateful to receive new materials that they can use to help them prepare for second grade and beyond!
My Project
Each day in the classroom we engage in literacy instruction during small group time. While I pull a small group of students to teach, the rest of the class engages in independent work as well as literacy centers.
My students are ready for more rigorous centers to use that enhance their understanding of the skills that we are working on in the classroom.
Some of these skills include: sight words, long vowel sounds, digraphs, consonant blends, writing, and higher level story comprehension.
In addition to these materials, I am also working toward keeping our classroom a clean and healthy place to learn. For this reason, I am also requesting Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, and other cleaning products to ensure that students are able to learn in a clean environment.
