My Students

Our school is a Title I school located in Central Florida. Ninety-eight percent of students at our school are eligible for free/reduced lunches. Our students come from a variety of cultural, social, behavioral, and emotional backgrounds.

Our students are amazing and so incredibly capable, but do not always come to school ready to learn due to circumstances that are outside of their/our control.

Often times, they need a little more encouragement and motivation in order to get them going.

My Project

Every year, each school in our county/district participates in a Superintendent's Reading challenge, in which students must read 25 books between September and March.

The number of our students that meet this yearly challenge, is typically much lower than numbers turned in from other schools in our district.

I have worked at this school, with these amazing kids, for over 15 years, but have just recently transitioned into the role of Media Specialist. My goal is to help every student find a love for reading and to get them all to complete this challenge!

I am breaking the challenge down in to smaller goals, and offering prizes for every 5 books read. I would like to offer these prizes as incentives to get the kids to start reading and hopefully they will find a love for it along the way!
