Our students come from various different neighborhoods within our school district. They speak more than twenty-seven languages including English, Spanish, Bulgarian, Russian, Japanese, Tagalog, and Arabic. Twenty percent of our students qualify for a free or reduced-cost breakfast/lunch.
Our students are so diverse; many students are excelling in academics, athletics, and artistic endeavors as well as struggling with various disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities.
Our primary social focus is community building and character education.
Regardless of where our students come from, they deserve to be successful. Our school is their home and our tight-knit community works closely together to see that all students have the chance, and the materials to learn and grow. Our students are amazing! They dream and think and question, always wondering about the world around them. They are the scientists, inventors, authors, artists, mathematicians, and visionaries of tomorrow. By fostering an environment of collaboration, community, healthy competition, and risk-taking, we are building a future that will make us proud.
My Project
It is so important to teach students about famous artists and to then experience the art medium used. The students develop a deeper understanding of the art after creating their own masterpieces. Students enjoy experimenting and testing their skills as they progress through lessons.
Degas is one artist that students relate to quickly because he showed common life as well as his ballet dancers.
Students can select inspiration from their own lives to illustrate with chalk pastels. Students need to use the correct mediums to truly understand the ability to shade and mix colors to add to their beautiful works. These six packs of chalk pastels will allow the small groups to share the materials as they work on their art.
