The beauty of student creation becomes even more evident when you understand the story, challenges, and emotions behind each masterpiece. Located in New York City, many of my students face challenges at home, are forced to grow up too quickly, and do not have the opportunity to explore the world around them.
Art is an outlet for expression and a place where students can discover their own identity.
Creation inspires us to reflect on who we are and how we can share the way we see the world with others. Once students understand that they can take their emotions and experiences, good and bad, and channel them into creation, the opportunities are endless. There is no greater reward than building a relationship with a child that furthers them not only in the art room; but in life. The world needs more artists!
My Project
Students are able to enjoy time outside in the fresh air at recess each day. As the art teacher, I am blessed to have lunch duty once a week and enjoy this casual break from the classroom. There are many students interested in making art during this time, and chalk will allow anyone to participate in creation while also beautifying the schoolyard.
Artists make the world a more colorful place!
By having chalk available to students at recess, I am eager to get some of the shy students off the bench and engaging with others in a safe way. The chalk will grant us more opportunities to work collaboratively and create masterpieces that everyone in the community can enjoy!
In addition to the chalk, I am also requesting fluorescent tempera cakes. We use these in the classroom all the time to get bright colors and right now we are due for a restock! Thank you so much for thinking of the artists at my school!
