This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students in this classroom are affectionate, caring, animated, helpful and hard workers that always try their best. My classroom is a multi-age special education classroom working with students with special needs. The students in my classroom have physical impairments and/or cognitive delays. The students mainstream with other students in our school and we participate in grade-level and cross-grade level learning opportunities and experiences. We are located in the heart of Boston, MA. The students are from various backgrounds and speak a total of 8 different languages (English, Spanish, Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Chinese, Turkish, Tagalog and Albanian). The students work well together as an entire school community we focus on a school culture of "WE".
My Project
We work with an amazing group of physically challenged students. Many of the students are in wheelchairs or use walkers to get around. The students often need extra support to sit correctly in a chair.
Rifton Compass chairs are specially made to help students with physical challenges, sit safely and correctly.
The chairs give extra support and can be adjusted for each student. The chairs help the children develop core strength and can easily be adjusted to fit each student.
The students would greatly benefit from new Rifton Compass chairs. The Rifton chairs presently used in the classroom are more than 20 years old and are wearing out.
