My Students
Our public school serves a diverse, community-oriented neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. The students represent a range of wonderful personalities.
Our classroom is bright, silly, joyful, curious, spontaneous, creative, caring, and more!
They arrive to school each day with the biggest smiles on their faces and are eager to learn and have fun in a safe and supportive school. Throughout the year, they will learn an incredible amount from a fantastic team of educators. They are looking forward to a year of fun!
My Project
In our first grade classroom, the students are always trying their best. As educators, our hope and dream is to help every child feel capable, successful, and that they belong.
Physical space is a crucial element of creating an environment in which to support children's academic, social, and emotional growth.
Unfortunately, the chairs in our classroom are too big for the first graders. They don't fit under the tables, which makes it difficult to physically navigate the room. The kids' feet dangle and don't touch the ground, which makes it unsafe for them to get in and out of their chairs. They are unable to sit in a proper writing position, which involves their feet being flat on the ground.
First grade is a pivotal year for the development of children. With chairs that are the appropriate height and depth, they can have a much easier time writing, reading, and moving around their classroom.
