Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I currently have the honor of teaching forty student journalists, cartoonists, and photographers. Contrary to the popular assumption that teenagers reside in Apathy Land, these students move through the world with a desire to make an imprint. They have heart, guts, tenacity and a strong will to create a quality newspaper. Now all they need are chairs!
We only have enough seats when students are out on campus, conducting photo or interview sessions. When the class is packed, students have to stand or sit on the floor. My page editors have to share seats or perform the balancing act of the century on wobbly chairs, weathered with public school age. We also rely on garage sale finds, but the pickings are often slim.
It sure would be grand to have 10 new stable chairs at our work stations to lift the morale of my lovely reporters! Your help will remind the teenagers that there are people who care about improving the classroom environment via a simple place to sit.
Thank you so much for supporting the youth of California. They will think of you while they edit their stories, create editorial cartoons, and crop their latest photos. Your help will evoke sunny grins from my California kids. Thank you.
