This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a high poverty school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

My students are thoughtful and enthusiastic learners.

They come to class each day eager to see their school family and tackle academic challenges. I am constantly amazed by their ingenuity and desire to be better than they were yesterday.

In my classroom, we focus on becoming learners, not just learning material. Hopefully, the skills they acquire are ones that will benefit them throughout their academic journey.

My Project

Hard plastic chairs and traditional desks. This is what classrooms looked like when I was growing up. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I realized learning is done best when the student is comfortable!

I am teaching my students how to be learners; not how to sit in uncomfortable chairs while they work.

If I had these chairs and desks in my room, my students would have more opportunities to be comfortable while working independently or with their partners. They won't associate school with hard plastic chairs and having to sit for hours at a desk. They'll think of the conversations they had, the discoveries they made, and the ideas they explored.
