My Students

My first graders are energetic, eager to learn and always open to new discoveries. They love hands on, active and engaging lessons that ignite their passion for learning. My students come from a close knit community in Minnesota where the parents are involved in every aspect of their child's learning. This makes for a team focused classroom. They both support and challenge one another daily.

My students have a passion and curiosity that is not easily duplicated.

They are enthusiastic, creative and energetic learners. Their learning should not be limited to a desk and a chair. They are meant to move and wiggle at this age, while remaining engaged and interactive.

My Project

Studies have shown that movement is not only good for your health but also your learning. I want to be able to provide my students with choices as far as seating. I do not want them to be limited to a desk and a chair. Rather, let them choose between a swivel stool, bouncing chair or seat cushion. Allowing them to move their bodies, while also staying engaged. This is what flexible seating will allow my students to do.

Fidgeting and constant movement is the definition of almost every first grader.

If I am able to provide materials that embrace the fidgets, I can increase their ability to learn and retain information. I want to make movement acceptable in the classroom at all times. Flexible seating allows students to make a choice on how they learn and where they learn. It allows the students to take charge of their learning and make a choice that fits them best.
