My Students

My students love alternative seating. They enjoy sitting at tables, on bouncy balls, in reclining chairs. They do not feel the same about the desks that they have. They will argue over who gets to sit in the bungee chairs, who gets to sit on the Bosu ball chair, who gets to sit at the table. They love to collaborate in the hallway and work on projects. They love to sit in big comfy chairs and DO and COMPLETE WORK! My students have a variety of ethnic and racial backgrounds. There is 97% poverty in my school and we receive Title I funds. There is a large number of special needs students. Given these facts, the students love to learn and would greatly benefit from alternative seating, something to make them more motivated and more successful!

My Project

My students love to sit in chairs or at tables, anywhere but desks. They love to collaborate and work together in comfortable and cozy spaces that maximize their effort and their collaboration. This project would give the students the ability to sit in seats that they find comfortable and cozy. There are already some chairs that the students absolutely LOVE. But there never seem to be enough. They argue over who gets to sit in the seats, and sometimes it is hard for me to decide who gets the chairs that I have. Having additional bungee chairs for the students would allow more students to sit in the flexible seating. And having hooks that I can hang the chairs on would make the chairs last longer, since they would be off of the floor, hanging on the wall. I teach math and my students always work together on projects, to collaborate on how to solve problems. Having these additional chairs would allow them to do this more often and with more ease.
