My students need clay, quality paint brushes, and paint to create sculptures in the art room! Many students have never touched, handled, or built with actual clay.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
A day in the Art Room at my school is a creative experience. Around 125 students enter into the Art Room each day to learn about new art mediums, artists, techniques, and have the opportunity for creative expression. My students range by levels of ability and interest in art, from low all the way to gifted. Many of my students have never used materials like clay, scratch art, or any type of sculpture before. Throughout my lessons, I teach a lot of interdisciplinary concepts as well as integrate technology as much as I can.
My school is a Title 1 elementary school, in an inner city school district, where 100% of our students receive free lunch.
Due to budget cuts, from the city to our school system, financial burden has been placed on our schools. Currently, there are very limited funds available to buy anything for my students. I have been working hard all year to collect donations, purchase supplies on my own expense, and advocate for my art program.
My Project
Help me bring clay projects to my students! Please help us learn new things by providing materials and tools necessary to create clay sculptures.
Your donation will directly allow my students to access clay and learn basic ceramics.
Most of my students, especially the younger grade levels, have never handled real clay. Some have used Model Magic before, but that is not a quality substitute for the process, feel, and techniques that accompany real clay.
A completely funded project will provide my students with real clay, albeit air drying, which feels and works like normal ceramic clay. It will also provide them with quality paint brushes and some acrylic paint color choices, which will take their ceramic projects from a plain finish to amazing!
