Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have come from many different parts of the world including Ecuador, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and the United States. They come with tenacity, creativity, and a wide variety of experiences and gifts. We work hard every day as scholars, artists, critical thinkers, and friends.

At our school, 96% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and 92% of the students are students of color.

The majority of my students are learning English as a second or third language. These students have the capacity to achieve greatness.

My Project

To prepare my students for the future and responsibilities as adults, we have a well-established classroom economy. In order to encourage them in all their pursuits, they will need as many tools as I can give them. Every student in my class has a job and they receive a paycheck every two weeks, with which they have to pay a monthly rent. Students can spend any extra money in our classroom store or on coupons for special privileges. It would be so fun to have items such as the squishies, emoji backpacks and slap bracelets in our classroom store.

My students have bright futures in front of them; they are the teachers, lawyers, artists and dentists that will shape the world in years to come.

Our careers unit is coming up. It would be great to add more literature to my classroom library on possible future enterprises and, in our global economy, how to be a global citizen. Books such as "One Hen: How One Small Loan Made a Big Difference", "The Toothpaste Millionaire", and "Kidreneurs: Young Entrepreneurs with Big Ideas!" will inspire my students to dream big dreams.
