This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in Second Grade. They include English Language Learners, Reclassified ELs, and English Language Only students, and some of my students receive Special Education and Resource/Intervention services. All students at my school receive free breakfast in the classroom and free lunch.
My 2nd Graders are at a critical point in their education where being an independent reader is essential to their success in all subject areas.
The materials in this project will help me ensure all of my students have the phonemic awareness and phonics skills necessary for becoming a strong reader.
My Project
The materials in this project will provide my students with 12 different centers for developing their foundational reading skills. The Phonemic Awareness kit includes materials for practicing the basic phonemic awareness skills, including segmenting and blending sounds, as well as more advanced skills, like sound substitution. While the Phonics kit includes materials for learning a variety of orthographic patterns, such as blends and digraphs, long vowel patterns, and affixes. With the materials from this project, I will be able to meet each student at their current reading level and provide the instruction they need to help them progress towards becoming successful independent readers.
