This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is full of students who face adversity on a daily basis and push themselves to come out on top every time. This group of students come from all walks of life and gather together each day to create a family full of love and admiration for each other. These are inspirational kids who work hard for themselves each day. All of our students receive free and reduced breakfast and lunch. Some students walk in the room in the morning after facing unspeakable situations the night before. This is their place where they know things will be better and that there are 20 other family members excited to see them and work together on bettering their futures.
My Project
In order for students to be well rounded in reading they need a variety of materials. I am requesting daily language journals, spiral notebooks for whole class creative narrative prompts, magnetic word builders to work on reading strategies, a comprehension center as well as a fluency center. These centers and additional resources will provide my students with activities that allow them to progress with their phonics, reading strategies, vocabulary, writing and comprehension skills. I want my students to be able to see a wide array of instructional methods in which they can learn from. Demands on students are so high in schools today and with these materials my students will meet those demands head on and do so with a greater confidence. Reading is the cornerstone of the classroom and students deserve all resources possible.
