Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Kindergarten is a wonderful grade in which students have the freedom to develop a variety of skills through play and diverse mediums. Although play contributes to their developmental and academic growth, due to limited funding in the district, I struggle to provide resources to support our students.
Our students are curious and enthusiastic as soon as they enter the classroom.
The room buzzes throughout the day as they laugh, sing, and share with their peers. They are a thoughtful, loving, and hardworking bunch, excited to learn and grow. While they are motivated by their dreams and engaged by the opportunities presented to them, due to economic challenges within the community, school, and district, our resources are limited. As their teacher, I struggle to provide sufficient and enriching supplies that will support small group learning. However, at our school, we are resourceful and do with what we have, but our students deserve and require more.
My Project
These resources will greatly impact a variety of small group sessions. The paper, write and wipe pockets, and markers will be used to recycle worksheets that target specific skills they need to practice like phonics, rhyming, letter and number recognition.
Although we have a listening center, I do not have any read along sets, which this project will provide. Having a fully functioning listening center will especially support my English Language Learners' language development while enhancing their early reading skills. To further promote the joy of reading, the set of soft seats will contribute to a comfortable reading nook.
The magnetic boards, letter beads, play doh and early literacy and math file folder games will further support fundamental reading, math and word building skills that are expected from the Common Core Standards. Finally, the timer will encourage students to work and clean up independently and in a timely fashion.
This project is about providing fun and engaging ways to hone skills that are covered throughout the year.
Any donation, large or small, will greatly impact their learning. Our students are eager to learn and to create significant change in their communities. Kindergarten is the perfect opportunity to invest them in their education so that they grow to be great leaders. It starts here. They deserve these supplies and your support. Thank you in advance for your consideration!
