Most of my students are brand new to school and need all the support they can get. I want to provide them with various materials that will catch their attention!
Our students come from many diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses.
Some of our students are English Language Learners and have completely immersed themselves into learning a new language. Our students come from all areas of our city including some areas that have high pockets of poverty. All students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Our school is part of the New York, 3-K and Pre-K for All Initiative. This is the fifth year this program has been implemented. As educators, we take pride in being innovators and a part of this new initiative. However, the lack of resources hinders our ability to provide a quality 3-K program for all students.
We work collaboratively to support and provide for all of our students, but feel they could achieve so much more with the necessary tools. We want our students to be prepared and successful in their future school endeavors and have access to the materials needed to succeed!
My Project
My students and I are in need of some new materials for our upcoming investigation, exploring and building units of study. We are in need of materials that will help the children investigate the world around them. The binoculars, magnifying glasses, nets, tweezers, etc. will help my young learners learn about their surroundings. Within the next few months the children will focus on exploring the world around them, inside and outside of our classroom.
These materials will help liven up our classroom centers while strengthening our cognitive and motor skills!
The building blocks will help student create buildings that look similar and relatable to buildings they have observed outside of school. The construction vehicles will help students understand how things are built.
The Play Doh materials will help students to create fun and unique shapes, patterns, etc. Lastly, the writing tablet will be a great addition to our Writing Center while incorporating some technology into our classroom! My students will soon be introduced to letters, so this tool will help them in learning about individual letters and how to write them.
