My Students

I work at a K-8 school in a rural county in Florida. Over 80% of the students in our county come from low-income families which makes us a Title I county. Unfortunately, on October 10th, our community was hit hard by Hurricane Michael. Many homes were either damaged or destroyed. Some students were displaced by the hurricane and/or lost everything that belonged to them. It has put a huge financial strain on many residents in our community.

There are so many things that make my students so special.

We are from a small town and it feels like we are all family! My students love to read and I love to teach reading. I am a 3rd generation teacher so it runs through my blood. As a teacher, there are many times when school supplies, craft materials, daily snacks, or pizza parties come out of my own pocket. These children are amazing students and deserve the best education possible!

My Project

Students participate in center rotation during small group instruction on a daily basis. These centers are used to enrich and remediate specific standards and tasks that we go through during the school year. Having differentiated centers allows for all of the students to be engaged and ready to learn.

During differentiated literacy centers, students can learn while having fun!

Having these centers will allow for all students to participate in activities of various levels. As students show academic growth, they can progress through the centers. These centers and activities will help my students grow and learn to be independent learners. The centers will help them explore and be creative. It will also help with their fine motor skills which they are still developing. Please help our classroom having the materials necessary to participate in engaging centers. I will use the flexible seating so the students will be comfortable as they learn!
