My Students

First grade is a time to discover the exciting world around us. Help me to create a vibrant and welcoming classroom for my bright-eyed first graders!

This will be my second year teaching first grade and I am SO excited to get a head start on the school year!

I will have the opportunity to work with 25 students this upcoming year and I want to have an engaging classroom ready on the first day of school. In my school, the children come from high poverty and are eager for opportunities to learn while having fun. I hope to provide a welcoming learning environment through organization and unique learning opportunities. Students come into first grade with varying levels of ability. I want to be able to help each of my children grow to their full potential with numerous hands-on learning experiences. My goal is for students to have so much fun exploring that they will not even realize that they are learning!

My Project

As a first year teacher in a high poverty school, I quickly learned that for my students school is one of the few places they can learn in a safe and caring environment. I also learned that in order to submerge these curious young minds in as many meaningful moments as possible, diverse literacy and math centers are key. I am requesting vowel teams and final e learning centers, grab and play partner math games, a number sense problem solving kit with hands-on ten frames, small group non-fiction comprehension folders, a class set of dry erase markers, a work organizer and an adjustable pocket chart stand. With the help of the materials I have requested my students will be able to work with their peers to explore non-fiction texts, the mysteries behind vowels, as well as addition and subtraction strategies aligned with the Common Core. My children will be thrilled to see that many of these educational games make connections to the real world to make them even more memorable and exciting.

My goal is to make learning fun and provide a positive atmosphere for my students to grow.

I believe these centers will support and reinforce the concepts taught during whole group lessons in both math and literacy. My students deserve to have a classroom full of enjoyable hands-on experiences that will challenge their thinking throughout the entire year!
