This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are always ready to learn through play and independent exploration, except we are lacking materials in our classroom to best support them! They also loved doing shared reading with 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear' so they will equally love the rest of the series.
My students are creative, fun-loving, and intelligent.
Our school has been one of the bottom 5% schools in Tennessee, and this is the second year of the turnaround district that has been implemented. I taught 8 of them last year in Pre-K, so I have developed close relationships with many of them and they are absolutely on track to succeed for the rest of their academic career to go to COLLEGE and be what they want to be when they grow up!
My Project
With similar types of resources last year, I was able to bring the foundational concepts we work on all year: letters name/sounds, phonemic awareness, numbers, counting, etc. to life. The students always ask me, "When are we going to centers?" because they love independently working and growing their brains. Now that they are in kindergarten, they need the next level of resources (ten-frames, beginning sounds, rhyming) to continue their love for independent learning and master the skills for this year.
One of my strengths as a teacher is coming up with creative ways for students to practice and master the same concepts or using the same set of materials for different purposes so students can see the concepts I always talk about in real-life, in front of them.
The two things I lack the most is money and time, so this project will help me a ton in helping me financially and saving me the time of making materials that easily fall apart.
