This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

With over 95% of our students coming from low socioeconomic households, it means that the vast majority of families have limited financial resources. These families may struggle to afford the basic necessities of life, such as food, housing, or transportation. Extracurricular activities, including things like end-of-year countdown celebrations, can be financially out of reach for these students. Every single item in this cart correlates with a theme day for the last few days of school. The supplies will be used to supplement any child who was not able to bring the materials needed for the activity that day.

Our goal is to bridge the economic divide and bring fun filled days to all children, independent of their family's socioeconomic status.

Tie-dye kits, canvas totes, bubbles, leis, and art supplies are just some of the key items needed for our end-of-year celebrations. For many students from low-income families, the cost of purchasing these items can be a significant burden. As a result, they may feel excluded from the celebration, which is meant to be a joyful occasion marking the end of the school year. This exclusion can impact their sense of belonging, self-esteem, and overall school experience.
